CHANGES TO RED BARON/A10
        
        Red Baron and A10 were originally written when the average
        PC was much slower than today's fastest machines.  Because
        of this the original versions of these programs run too 
        quickly or exhibit other flaws on many fast machines.  
        Changes have been made to this version to allow the programs
        to run smoothly and correctly on any machine available. 


        INSTALLING THE MANUAL

        If you install the manual and the game both from Windows 
        you should encounter no problems, regardless of whether you 
        have chosen MINIMUM or FULL installation, even if you later 
        choose to run the game from DOS.  However, if you first 
        install Red Baron/A10 from DOS and later install the manual 
        from Windows, you must be careful to choose the same size  
        install that you used for the game.  The manual is always
        run from the CD, so your installation choice will not 
        affect the operation of the online manual.  However, 
        choosing a different install size when you install the 
        manual may result in some files being changed and render
        Red Baron/A10 unplayable.  If this should happen, simply 
        delete the Red Baron/A10 files from your hard drive and 
        reinstall. 

        RED BARON/A10 AND WINDOWS

        Red Baron/A10 was originally a DOS application, and while we
        have provided PIFs and icons to allow you to run under 
        Windows, some systems will not be able to properly execute
        Red Baron/A10 from Windows.  If you have any problems 
        running your program under Windows, we highly recommend you 
        run under DOS.  Complete instructions for installing and 
        running Red Baron/A10 under DOS can be found in the 
        technical support portion of the printed documentation.

        MEMORY CONCERNS

        Some memory managers may be unable to load both CD ROM drivers
        and compression drivers into high memory.  Because of this it
        may not be possible to free enough conventional memory to run
        Red Baron/A10 while your CD ROM drive is enabled.  It may be
        necessary to run Red Baron/A10 from a bootdisk that does not 
        enable your CD ROM drive.  Complete instructions are in the 
        technical support section of the printed documentation.

        THE MANUAL AND 16 COLOR WINDOWS
        
        We highly recommend that you view the online manual in 256
        colors.  While the manual supports 16 color systems, the 
        quality of the artwork will be greatly diminished on these 
        systems, and certain color plates may not be displayed. 
        Most VGA cards are shipped with appropriate drivers to 
        support Windows in 256 color mode.  Consult your Windows 
        manual on how to use setup to change video drivers.  

        THE NEED FOR SPEED

        If the frame rate seems too low or the program doesn't 
        seem to be running smoothly, there are several things to
        try.  First, if you are running under Windows, try running
        Red Baron/A10 under DOS, following the instructions found in 
        the printed documentation.  Reducing the detail of the 
        simulation will also improve frame rate, as will turning
        the ground detail "off" during combat.  The detail selections
        may be called up by pressing F10 at any time from the sim.
        Also, smoothness will be increased by sliding the Time Scale
        slider slightly to the left.  This will slow the overall
        time rate of the game slightly, but will decrease the time
        that passes between frames and smooth out jumpiness.

RED BARON COMMON PROBLEMS

Problem: The cursor moves around by itself.
Solution: You may have a joystick port in the computer with no joystick 
hooked up. Press ALT-J several times to disable the joystick in the program. 
There may also be conflicting joystick ports in the computer, or you may be 
using an older mouse driver. Press ALT-D to toggle the mouse off.

If these steps fails to help, check the MSCDEX line in your 
AUTOEXEC.BAT file and make sure that it has the following parameters: 
/M:10 /E If they are not there, make a boot disk and add the parameters on it. 
An example MSCDEX line would look like the following:

LH C:\DOS\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MSCD001 /M:10 /E

Problem: You see random yellow and red spots when flying.
Solution: This is normal, these are actually flares being fired from the 
ground.
